Zarraffa’s Roastery is located at the company’s head office in Eagleby, only 30 minutes drive from the Brisbane CBD.

Through the operation of gas-fired air roasters, we consistently deliver perfectly roasted coffee blends.

Zarraffa’s air roasting technology, more widely known as a fluid bed roasting, uses a stream of hot air to roast the coffee beans. The necessary force of the air causes the beans to flow or to swirl, giving them the appearance of being a “fluid bed”. This roasting method produces clean, fresh and palatable coffee beans with a delicious taste.

The Zarraffa’s Coffee blends and origins, characteristics and roasting profiles were designed and developed by the founders of Zarraffa’s and are a consistent factor in the delicious taste of our coffee-based drinks at each of our locations. High-grade Arabica beans – a unique blend of Kenyan and Ethiopian beans - are carefully sourced and roasted to produce our popular house coffee blend.

Fostering a special bond with the country of Kenya, and in particular the town of Meru, Zarraffa’s Roastery has formed a ‘trade, not aid’ relationship, enabling us to give back to the communities from which we source our beans.

This means that for each cup of coffee that is purchased, together with our customers, we are contributing to the well-being of our international coffee growers, families and their communities.

Zarraffa’s Roastery supplies all Zarraffa’s Coffee stores Australia-wide. The coffee arrives at each store freshly roasted and ready to be enjoyed at its ideal peak flavour.

COFFEE ORIGINS

Sourced from all over the world, the Arabica coffee beans used in production at Zarraffa’s Coffee are grown in Kenya, Guatemala, Ethiopia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Colombia and other coffee growing regions.

Zarraffa’s (pronounced Za-raff-as) comes from the Arabic word ‘Zarafa‘ which means ‘Giraffe’. The Masai Giraffe typically inhabits the savannahs of Kenya and Ethiopia, the origin of coffee.

Did you know That coffee beans are actually the pit inside of the coffee tree fruit, similar to the pit in regular cherries?

The pits are removed and then processed before roasting, to produce that irresistible aroma and flavour that we all love.

At Zarraffa’s, we believe in supporting the coffee growers who support us. We source beans from an exclusive coffee co-up at the base of Mount Kenya in Eastern Africa, and the coffee purchased is helping these communities improve social conditions and assists in building trade relationships with lasting impact. The coffee plantation is right next to the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, which allows us to also support the conservation of wildlife in the area through the Zarraffa’s Foundation.

To create our unique single origin and gourmet blends, we also source quality specialty coffee beans from our plantation partners around the globe, ensuring the beans are a fresh as possible. Once the beans are acquired in their raw (green) state, they are air roasted locally at the Zarraffa’s Coffee Roastery and packaged on site, ready for wholesale distribution or for sale at any of our retail outlets.

OUR COFFEE

Our mission is to create an individually perfect cup of coffee, every time.

The Zarraffa’s Coffee blends and origins, characteristics and roasting profiles were designed and developed by the founders of Zarraffa’s and remain a consistent factor in the great taste of the coffee-based drinks at each location.

Our house coffee blend, African Masai, is a unique blend of Kenyan and Ethiopian arabica beans which are sourced and roasted in-house to produce our famous Zarraffa’s taste!

Like all aspects of Zarraffa’s Coffee product delivery, our beans are packaged to ensure that they are protected from any adverse properties that may exist in the surrounding environment. Properly roasted coffee beans are particularly sensitive to light, air and moisture so it is imperative to store the beans in a cool, dry, dark place. Zarraffa’s Coffee bean packaging techniques are designed to block light from one side of the bag assisting in the protection of the coffee beans. The bags also exhibit a one-way valve to emit any unsolicited air.

Once packaged, Zarraffa’s Coffee beans are refrigerated at all Zarraffa’s Coffee retail outlets to keep the beans from moisture and temperature damage. It is recommended that both whole roasted beans and ground beans be stored in freezer space once purchased.

To produce an individually perfect cup of coffee for every customer is our goal, and making that cup of coffee from perfectly roasted coffee beans brings us that one step closer.
